Low key relaxation tips for busy people

Are you one of those people who is constantly on the go, checking emails or logged in somewhere being busy? Well, it’s hardly surprising if you’re feeling exhausted, and you’re not alone. If you seem to be eternally busy and never seem to be able to find the time to relax, here are some quick tips for you that will help you get a bit of relaxation into your life without booking too much time out.

Deep Breathing

Being stressed out deprives your body of oxygen, which makes you feel even more tired.

Take some time in a quiet moment just to practice a few basic deep breathing techniques.  Breathe in deeply through your nose and slowly out through your mouth, and repeat five times. If nothing else this will disconnect your brain from thinking about getting to the front of the queue you’re standing in, or getting back to your desk.

Make a Classical Music Playlist and Listen to it.

Music can really affect your mood, and listening to classical music can really help settle you down if you’re feeling a bit anxious. A lot of busy people work with classical music playing in the background as they find it helps to keep them calm during a busy day.

Get Some Exercise!

Yes, it’s an old chestnut but it’s that way for a reason. Regular exercise is one of the most effective stress relievers there is. It gets your circulation going and your heart rate up, increasing your energy levels and giving you a lift that will last longer than another cup of coffee.

Socialise with your Friends

Good friends can be the best distraction, and mates are great for support when you feel a bit overwhelmed. If you have a window in a busy day or some time after work, use it wisely and grab a coffee with a mate. Even better, go for a walk in the park! Just take the time to catch up with a friend – it will do you the power of good.

Get Out in the Garden

Gardening is a very relaxing hobby, and if you get into it, it can be a very rewarding one too.  Immersing yourself in nature, feeling the soil between your fingers and the buds as they come through can be a tonic for your soul.  You also get to sit and enjoy a gorgeous garden and a nice glass of wine later, watching your efforts.

Go Technology Free

Switch off your mobile, tablet, and laptop. Give Netflix a day off. Reconnect with nature, read a book, play games with the kids – the things people used to do before social media and a digital lifestyle took over. Tech gives us a constant background noise from notifications on our phones, computers, emails and social media and sometimes we just need to go tech-free!

Find a quick and easy way of switching off and relaxing, and keep trying different ones. You’ll feel much better if you allow some time to do things you love.
